This week has been an interesting week for the teeth at our home...
Calvin is teething but must have a big tooth coming in because he has had a pretty good fever the last couple of nights and the only thing I can link it to is teething, because other than the fever and having a hard time sleeping he is his happy and normal self. He is crawling around really well and pulling up to standing, he keeps himself entertained really well, that sometimes I almost forget he is awake!
Alden was put out on Wednesday to have his teeth worked on. He has 6 teeth that are now covered with crowns. They are all on the top of his month, so if you look in his month the only teeth that are his, are his two canines, all others are covered. The front ones I had noticed a while back when brushing and cleaning his teeth, but since everything was the same color as his teeth, I wasn't sure if they were cavities, I just new I couldn't scrape the stuff off with my teeth cleaning tools. The back ones are the ones I knew for sure were cavities and that is why we took him in in the first place.
I wondered why his teeth could be so bad when really we don't let him eat hardly any candy. When he gets candy from others, or on holidays, etc, we usually give all of the candy to my students as prizes for practicing or use it for something else, he rarely gets much of it. Basically what we have discovered is he has really weak teeth and I think a lot of it stems from him not receiving much nutrients from 1-2 months of age. During the first few months of life your primary upper teeth form the protective outer coating on your teeth, the bottom teeth do as well, but the upper teeth are formed first.
Result.. at our house Alden will be eating even less sugar (he can no longer have sugar candy anyways because it could pull off a crown.) and we will make sure to brush his teeth more often. Hopefully we will be able to do a better job with Calvin!
Poor boys! That's so sad Alden had to get so many crowns and he's only 2! I hope his adult teeth don't have so many problems. And I hope your insurance covered part of that too!
