Sailing!

I took sailing in college and would take any chance I could get when I was at BYU to go sailing with the sailing club.  I was super excited when Becca and Christopher said they were going to take us sailing!
Michael and I have talked about how it would be fun to be sailors one day.  Well although I loved the trip it made me realize that I don't think Michael and I are quite that adventurous.  Maybe one day but not for now.  At one point the ship was leaning so far to one side that I was basically standing on the bench across from me.  Christopher was not worried one bit but I on the other hand was sure we were on the verge of capsizing.  Luckily we didn't capsize, Christopher was right that we were a okay.
Michael and I went sailing once together and we were constantly worried about capsizing, now I realize that maybe we weren't as close as I thought back then.

Sea World with Becca Boo

Since Becca isn't far from Sea World we headed over there when we were there.  This time Benson could ride the rides because he can walk and Alden was tall enough for some of the big roller coasters!
Putting on the sun screen
Benson's first time on a ride, we went on the elmo plane ride and he loved it!

This is Alden and I on Atlantis just after we did the big drop.  So fun to take Alden on his first big roller coaster. He loved it although it did scare him.  After wards he said, "You don't want to go on that again do you?, it was scary"

LA at the beach!

Right after Michael and I got back from D.C.  The boys and I went to Becca's home in L.A.  We were glad that we were able to make it to the beach this summer.  The boys love playing in the sand and Alden loves playing in the water!

Washington DC

This is just outside the capital building.  We couldn't have any food items in our bag so we stopped on the steps to eat our snacks.  Benson loved chasing and looking at all of the birds and squirrels. Everyone that walked by loved watching Benson get so excited every time he saw an animal.

On our tour of the capital building- every state has two statues, it was neat seeing which statues each state picked.  A couple of states had just switched a statue, it was interesting to see which statues were being replaced and with what was replacing them. Below is one of the Arizona statues, Arizona made it easy to find their statues because of the state name is written in big on both.

The picture above is the only picture I took from the Smithsonian art museum.  It is the back of the only Leonardo Da Vinci.  On the back of this painting he has the words, "Virtue is Beauty" written in Latin.  I couldn't agree more with this statement.

These are some pictures from the Natural History Museum.  One of my favorite places in the museum was the amazing pictures people had taken of nature and animals.

Thomas Jefferson Memorial- I loved all of the quotes they had all over the walls.

Building things and other summer games

Calvin above is our good little helper.  He plays along with whatever game Alden has planned for the day.  They make a great little duo.

Benson is eating more and more things which has been really nice.  He loves to feed himself which can be helpful some of the time and makes a huge mess all of the time.  I am amazed how I can usually fill a whole dustpan of food from what has fallen off his tray!

Alden still has been big into building things with cardboard and other things that he pulls out of the recycling bin.  These are a couple of the things that he has made that I remembered to get pictures before he had to clean them up or make something else.  Above and below was the roller coaster he made.  I don't know if you can tell but there is a huge line of animals waiting to go on and each one has pieces of toilet paper that they are using for their tickets.
Calvin below used the laundry basket to bus the animals to and from the roller coaster place.

These pictures are of the restaurant Alden made  He used cardboard as walls and a floor and then boxes as chairs and seats.  Calvin and Benson are sitting at the seats in the restaurant and Alden is in the back where he prepared the food. Alden had kept coming down stairs asking if he could buy some food from me, I sold him a couple of things and then I went with Calvin and Benson to his restaurant. He had cups that he kept full of water for everyone.  He then brought out kids meals for Calvin and Benson.  I was rather impressed how much thought he had put into everything.  The kids meals had the little food items he had bought from me and each had a little toy he had found from around the house.  The meals were each in empty tissue boxes.  He had made a place for trash and he explained how the bathrooms were just out the door.  The boys enjoyed going to Alden's restaurant!

This was a magic show we attended at the library.  Every year after the magic show the boys get really into trying to do magic.  It's always fun to see their magic tricks! :)

This is a stage Alden made one day to do shows on.  Other things I haven't taken pictures of conclude many different variety of stores and shelves.  One store took up our entire living room but it was well organized inside.  He has also made shelves, a bed, and a house.
